🎮 Gameplay
In Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II, you'll experience a thrilling combination of fast-paced tactical combat and strategic management. Take control of either the ancient Necron legions or the techno-religious acolytes of the Omnissiah, with the fate of a world hanging in the balance. As Vargard Nefershah mobilizes her dynasty's legions to annihilate Adeptus Mechanicus interlopers who unknowingly settled upon her world, Magos Dominus Faustinius is summoned to bring his expertise to bear and ensure the Necrons don't succeed. The conflict soon becomes a crucible of unanticipated significance, drawing in external actors stranger and more deadly still.

With two playable factions, two narrative campaigns, and highly unique play-styles, you'll need to master and adapt each side's abilities and combatants to emerge victorious. Assemble your force, deploy your warriors, and crush your enemies in intense turn-based battles, mastering environmental mechanics and adapting to each faction's strengths and weaknesses. Manage your territory's garrisons, assemble your forces wisely for each mission, and deploy and upgrade a characterful entourage of leaders or nobles to shape the war's outcome. With sublime music and audio design by critically acclaimed composer Guillaume David, incredible illustrations, and detailed environments and characters, you'll be transported to the grim darkness of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
As you embark on this technological war, the fate of a world hangs in the balance. The Necrons, ancient and deathless legions, seek to reclaim their lost dominance, while the Adeptus Mechanicus, with its techno-religious zealotry, aims to maintain its grasp on the planet's resources. Meanwhile, external actors lurk on the periphery, drawn by the conflict like moths to a flame. The Sankhotep dynasty, once thought extinct, stirs anew, threatening to unleash their legions upon the already-besieged world. You must navigate this complex web of allegiances and animosities, as the Mechanicus and Necrons vie for control of the planet's regions, resources, and ultimately, its very soul.
📝 Review
✅ Pros

• Visually stunning with great artwork and character portraits
• The sound effects are punchy and the voice acting is good, especially when the garbled speech option is enabled
• The battlefields have been stunning so far, with beautiful and atmospheric environments
• Dropping pieces of environment as cover and crushing enemies beneath them is a fun feature
• The world map and faction management elements are well-done
❌ Cons

• The lack of customization for fighting forces is a significant drawback
• Gameplay feels restrictive and inflexible, with too much focus on a single leader character
• The storybook approach to narration can be annoying and removes immersion
• Maps don't have real tactical relevance, cover is sparse, and spawn locations are needlessly limiting
• The cognition system seems lacking in depth compared to the original game
• Performance issues, including low frame rates and unoptimized gameplay, detract from the overall experience
• There's a lack of freedom to choose rewards from missions, leading to a stilted feeling of objective over everything
• Linearity of missions is a departure from the more open-ended design of the original game
• The soundtrack lacks the bombastic energy of the first game and feels more like an Ixion OST
• Some characters' abilities are poorly designed or feel tacked on, such as Rho's complicated mechanics
